August 26, 2018– Fairlane Coffee

Fairlane Coffee in Westmoreland is one of six newer shops we visited twice in 2018 because we were so surprised and pleased with them.  One trip was in late comfortable summer, the other in cooler December.  (Admittedly, the route interchange via SE Clinton to 17th could have gone smoother, otherwise it’s a shorter route than what we’ve normally taken to reach Westmoreland.)

We enjoyed the automobile memorobilia theme there, as well as the hanging plants, smiling baristas, and camaraderie  we could sense among the customers. It seemed to be doing an effective job at conveying to the community that this is a shop where you’re encouraged to rendez-vous with friends.

Hopefully past the worst of air quality warnings, check-in topics included D telling  how the smoke affected the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland; G reporting that Spokane one day had the worst air quality rating in the nation; and H telling of his family’s magical participation at a 45-person family gathering on the New Jersey shore, another reminder it’s good to have low expectations.  As a bonus we ran across friend C who was working on a tree preservation strategy with regards to a development proposal for the mausoleum; thankfully D was able to provide some advice.
