Sept. 17, 2017– Groundwork Coffee Co./NW Vaughan

As stated when we visited Hawthorne’s Groundwork, Los Angeles-based Groundwork Coffee recently acquired Kobos’s roastery and shop in NW to add to its existing two PDX shops.  (Because of Groundwork’s emphasis on building community and organic products, we feel fine visiting them even though they do meet the definition of a being a chain.)   Admittedly, this NW site is  neither  pedestrian nor bicycle friendly, being on the busy Vaughan, and surrounded on the north by light industrial uses.  But the insides are worth a look.

Though we were comfortable here with the variety of contrasting images – half finished walls vs some complete, plus attractive art and plants – , we learned that even though now open for business, the interior will soon be undergoing a significant remodel.  Obviously, we’ll be interested in seeing the finished project.

Today’s discussion was international, (M couldn’t see the attraction of ex/pat draws like San Miguel Allende (over a Guanajuato,)  scientific, (G told us of his and wife D’s spur-of- the-moment decision to see the eclipse in a Silverton parking lot, and all of us oohed/aahed remembering the golden diamond,)  environmental, (fires in the NW despite record rains this winter, plus Southern hurricanes,) and political (DACA, and the debt ceiling extension- Houston recovery funding agreement.)
