In order to take advantage of last Sunday’s dry weather, and reduced traffic due to the daylight savings time change, we took the long – back and forth on Willamette Blvd – way to our Madrona Hill destination. And like last week’s rediscovery of Public Domain, we encountered a refurbished, improved, and warmer shop than the one we visited six years ago. If memory serves us, there’s been a sizable increase in the number avicend variety of tables & chairs, the bakery & cooking space, and art on the walls. For those of us who like to hang out, this remodeled Cafe is much more inviting than the old one, the amount and quality of baked goods has grown, the staff is better in terms of customer service.

Discussion topics ran from how T chose to attend Rutgers rather than Howard U. due to the latter’s poor communications with its applicants; M’s circuitous route from San Diego State to UC Santa Cruz, via 2 years of mostly S. American traveling; how much more affordable public (and private) colleges were when we attended; how involved in our K-12 schooling H’s and T’s moms were, as opposed to M’s immigrant father who was intimidated by his weak English-speaking skills; and how H’s niece from Montana was not enjoying going to Grant H.S., and was applying for the Gateways to College program at PCC.
