After last week’s successful trip to Barista Pearl, we returned to NW 13th and another quirky shop. When Nossa Familia says Bar, that’s what they mean rather than “shop.” This site is the company’s warehouse and roaster, and a small counter attached to the warehouse sells retail coffee and assorted gifts. Inside there are only 2 stools for sitting, so we brought in two of their outdoor chairs and huddled in a corner. Nevertheless, we had a good time learning about the genesis of this Portland outlet for the Brazilian owners of Familia and their coffee plantation, and talking with the super-friendly customers who seemed like regulars, bantering with the two baristas on duty. Finally of note, the bar is across the street from the Pacific College of NW Art’s other worldly bike shelter. 811 NE 13th http://www.familyroast.com
