Cafe Eleven- June 17, 2012

Despite both being sixty+, and having visited more than 70 shops so far, today’s two riders still experience youthful thrills when they come across hidden gems in underserved neighborhoods.   In a challenging residential neighborhood of modest homes just east of MLK, sits a smallish, unassuming bakery and adjacent cafe.  With welcoming smiles, and tasty art on the walls as well as tasty treats & drinks, Cafe Eleven, is just aching to serve as a neighborhood hub.  Even without bike parking and lots of seating options – two of our usual ingredients for hanging-out nirvanas – we admired what the owners have achieved so far.   435 NE Rosa Parks Blvd.

Appreciate EcoGrll’s recommending the Cafe’s breakfast paninis and Sammies, and explaining the relationship between the Cafe and the adjacent Florio Bakery.

To my understanding the city won’t let them put in regular bike parking since it’s residential 😦 Just an FYI that Florio is just the commercial bakery next door – Cafe Eleven is owned by different people and just happen to get the pastry portion of their menu from Florio. They have really good breakfast paninis & bagel sammies too 🙂
